GUT HEALTH 101 | How to Heal Your Gut
Today we're talking about how to heal the gut.
OPEN ME! ________
Maintaining a healthy gut is essential for overall wellness, influencing everything from digestion to immunity and mental health, but how do we get there?
Today we’ll be drawing largely from Dr. Will Bulsiewicz’s work, a renowned gastroenterologist and author, who emphasizes the profound impact of diet and lifestyle on your gorgeous gut. His approach champions the benefits of a diverse, plant-based diet rich in fiber and probiotics.
By nurturing a healthy gut microbiome, you can enhance not only your digestion, but also reduce inflammation, and support your overall well-being. A win-win-win. {...}

    I recently came across the theory that mouth bacteria and gut bacteria are one and the same (which makes sense, all part of digestive system) and so you need to take care of both together, and that xylitol is good for mouth bacteria - have you heard anything about this, or what do you think as a nutritionist? From personal experience I had toothache while pregnant then started taking an iron mouth-spray supplement, which just happened to contain xylitol, and my tooth issue went away... so I feel like that is what helped and I accidentally sorted it out :)

  • @anncat1111

    Great tips, especially which are prebiotic and probiotic foods. Just going to say something speculatively from personal experience... I could not get a well gut balance as a teen, and on and off into my early twenties. My GP said my vegan diet was harming me, so I integrated things they advised like eggs, but nothing improved. I'd been taking The Pill for acne at a young age, though it didn't help and GP said I needed to take it for longer than 6 months to see improvements, which didn't happen, then they put me on different hormone pills across years... 9 different ones that all didn't help! I had said I felt like the pill made my tummy awful, like IBS symptoms, and they said that couldn't be the cause. Eventually after 9 years of mostly taking the pill I just felt I really needed a break, so I stopped it, and my gut was much better, and my whole body felt more well. I was then tentatively shifting back to veganism to see how it was.. and I felt even better then! :) I put this partly down to similar synthetic hormones existing in animals, and partly down to the increase in nuts and seeds and fibre in general once going 100% plant-based again. That was more than a decade ago and it's consistently solved all my body issues :) I had balance on the pill too, and that left when going vegan, before it was just puberty. Now these synthetic hormones were obviously something that didn't suit my body and they might be ok for someone else, but if it's something that anyone's not looked at that could be a factor, it might be worth seeing how your body feels without the pill / animals. I've read that because synthetic hormones are so widely used they are in our drinking water, and I haven't tried this but know people who use a water distiller on all their water before drinking or cooking, which removes hormones and microplastics, chlorine and whatever chemicals so you've got literally just water, and after distilling there is a big thick tar-like goo at the bottom of the machine showing all the stuff that was in there. Another option might be bottled spring water, as I don't know exactly how much hormones get into everything, although I read they're in the rain and rivers etc. Has anyone else heard of this? Sorry I touched into a few side topics there, as you said there can be so many rabbit holes! but I hope that helps someone who's stuck wondering what's going on.

      Hi Jasminetea. It's not my course, but it's the school where I did my nutrition studies! I am sure that the course would help you to get to the bottom of your histamine issues, but the best idea would be to call the admissions office and ask for sure! Maybe there's another course that they would recommend instead. They're super friendly. 8:46 Great informative video, but this is where you lost me, calling any dietary regime that is not vegan “dubious”. Or that you wouldn’t necessarily adhere to it if you had a client whose dietary regime includes animal products..which I find odd because in the beginning you note bio individuality. This implies that you understand there's no one-size-fits-all approach to health and nutrition. Hopefully i’m misunderstanding you here, but otherwise I enjoyed the video, with the exception being that comment. We’re all unique in our biological makeup and requirements - there is space for all.

    Ann, your little one is such a cutie! I'm sure they both are. Great tips! I have a little 3 shelf wheely thing, that I manoeuvre around our flat with me (we're on one floor) with my toes! It has all of mine and bubs' gear, including a kind of self-care washbag :) We love to dance and sing, so we improve moments like when I'm cooking or cleaning by dancing and singing at the same time, and the bubs (3 months old) coos, giggles and kicks his legs - joining in as much as he can, and I make sure he feels involved by stroking over him with the dance moves :) My partner is a sound therapist, and I can confirm there is so much that sound can do for us, even just our own voice. For example the note of E can improve memory (studies have been done if you search, that explain how) and my partner has a hardpan and a gong tuned to E that he plays at sessions for dementia. It sounds magical, but its just nature and biology. I believe our intuition helps us to choose to listen to the things we need to hear :)

    Thanks Ann :) Your home must be so lovely <3 we have a small flat and it's descended to the level of thrift shop stock room :) but it's worth it, we love our bubs! Thoroughly backup recommendation of Silverette, got me through first few weeks or else I'd have been miserable - can really tell the difference if you spend a few hours forgetting to put them back in! Now a few months in I don't need them on the regular, but like knowing they're there. We love baby wearing, we haven't used our pram/stroller! It's heavy, bulky and annoying, baby likes to be up in wrap if sleepy or freehold and turning and kicking :) We were told to get lots of sleep suits by everyone, and did. Well, the ones with feet in haven't worked for us because our bubs appears to be long and slim and the legs are way too short before the width anywhere near fits, so the ones without feet have been the only ones we can use, and I imagine give a much more flexible fit for all babies and last longer as they grow.

    • @VeggieMagnifique
      @VeggieMagnifique 3 місяці тому

      You're hilarious. And right! I used to be all about the ones with feet because I wanted their little toesies to be warm and yet it can be so limiting! And here's to babywearing, silverettes, and a cozy bubs-filled home! (And thanks... our home is small but mighty. We're doing everything we can to NOT burst at the seams.... 😅) Thanks so much for your comments!

Business ideas can be hit or miss and every successful person has their failures before finding the big score. On the topic of the birth, I'm so proud of you, love you, and you will always be capable of doing hard things. Life is such a wild ride sometimes. I love to hear your perspective. Many miracles and I agree that not knowing can be better than knowing oftentimes. We live in times of stats and overwhelming amount of data. We tend to get glimpses into everything. But ultrasounds are the be all end all....as you saw with the weight estimate. This was a real learning, and growth journey indeed. I feel that way about many of my own births....I grew so much.
